YVR Twestival Raises over $8000

Did you go to YVR Twestival last night?

“Last night’s event was incredible. I have never met so many amazing people in one room since I moved to Vancouver,” someone told me as we discussed how amazing the YVR Twestival was last night. Laughter, great conversation, food, drink and celebration filled the Lookout. Panoramic views of Vancouver’s lush beauty surrounded us.

An abundance of booths from different sponsors, silent auction items and much more were available. On a personal note, it was wonderful to meet twitter friends in person, connect with dear friends and celebrate together. Huge thanks to Rebecca Bollwitt and the YVR Twestival Organizing Committee. Through this incredibly event, we have raised over $8000 to invest in Beauty Night’s cause – to build self esteem and change lives of women and youth living in poverty through 3 streams of programming – wellness, life skills development and makeovers. Donations are still being accepted on the YVR Twestival site.

If you want to check out the photos, please check out Jeremy Lim’s photo stream on flickr. If you have photos to share, please post the link in the comment section so we can add them into this post. Huge thank you to everyone who supported YVR Twestival – we are thrilled that you did!

Hair-Cut-A-Thon Raised $705!

Last year, JuJu Salon owner, Steve Jiu asked friends and family to donate money to Beauty Night in lieu of birthday presents. He donated $100 to Beauty Night. This year Steve wanted to go bigger. He opened up his Aveda Concept Salon to hold a Hair-Cut-A-Thon to raise money for Beauty Night’s 3 streams of programming.

Bean Vancouver’s Vanessa Marshall recruited volunteers to help facilitate the event while Jiu recruited his staff and other salon owners to participate. Thanks to engaging more supporters, he multiplied his donation by 7. Yesterday’s efforts raised $705 for Beauty Night.

I Change, I Change the World

Do you have a change you want to make in your life? If you commit to making that change over the next 6-8 weeks, you can change yourself and the community. Please chose to celebrate International Women’s Day (March 8th) but making a positive change in your life and raising money to change the lives of women and children living in poverty through Beauty Night’s programs.

I Change, I Change The World (IC) is Beauty Night Society’s (BN) first fundraising initiative of 2011.  The IC campaign provides a platform for volunteers, participants, employees and other supporters of BN to create positive change in their lives while raising money for BN.

The campaign start date is March 8, 2011 and end date is April 19, 2011.  Participants in the IC campaign will have 6 weeks in which to affect a change of their choice (like quitting smoking or running 2km without stopping).  Participants utilize Canadahelps.org to create an online pledge page where people can pledge their support for the individual’ personal goal.  Money pledged/raised by each individual will go directly to BN.

Our campaign goal is to raise $100 000. The monies raised will support Beauty Night’s 3 streams of programs: wellness, life skill development and makeovers. Through this initiative we aim to raise money to continue building self esteem and changing lives of women and youth living in poverty. “In the past 10 years, we have given over 11, 000 life-makeovers,” Beauty Night Founder and Executive Director, Caroline MacGillivray explains, “By asking our supporters to make a positive change in their lives and raising money for a cause they believe in, we hope to make a positive impact in the lives of those who support and live in the community. I change, I change the world is a great way to do that.”

When asked if she was going to be participating in IC campaign, MacGillivray smiled and said,”Yes. I decided it was time to get over my fear of running. I stepped out of my heels and into a pair of running shoes. I started my IC goal several weeks ago as I am training for the Vancouver Sun Run. Thanks to my trainer, Laura Fairfield, I managed to run 5k without stopping. So I am half way there.”

Some of our Beauty Night Supporter’s goals include:
