Carson Graham Students win $5000 for Beauty Night

It is with great pleasure that I write this post! Last night, the Carson Graham planning 10 students won $5000 for Beauty Night with their YPI (youth philanthropy initiative) presentation. Every year for planning 10, one of the projects is the Youth Philanthropy Initiative. Students chose a charity of their choice, research it, and do a presentation on behalf of the charity. The presentation selected wins $5000 to further their cause. We are thrilled that we were chosen!

This is the original video. Stay tuned for the one used for the final presentation! Huge thanks to Mersedeh Sagafi, Jasmine Price, Ryder Coker, and Terry-Dayne Marshall.

Change the World by Letting Go of Clutter

Who do you know who needs to unclutter their life and change the world? Since spring arrived late in Vancouver, it isn’t too late for spring cleaning. As you gather up clothes, books, house hold appliances to gear up for a garage sale, you can change your world and the world around you at the same time.

Rid yourself of clutter by selling it and donate the proceeds to Beauty Night. We will give you a tax receipt and use the money to build self esteem and change lives for women and youth living in poverty. Change you world & the world around you with one swoop. Don’t you just love win/win situations?

If you would like to have brochures about Beauty Night at your website, contact us at info@beautynight.org subject line garage sale. Donations can be made on this site or via cheque. Thank you for spreading the word about our cause.

I Change, I Change the World

Do you have a change you want to make in your life? If you commit to making that change over the next 6-8 weeks, you can change yourself and the community. Please chose to celebrate International Women’s Day (March 8th) but making a positive change in your life and raising money to change the lives of women and children living in poverty through Beauty Night’s programs.

I Change, I Change The World (IC) is Beauty Night Society’s (BN) first fundraising initiative of 2011.  The IC campaign provides a platform for volunteers, participants, employees and other supporters of BN to create positive change in their lives while raising money for BN.

The campaign start date is March 8, 2011 and end date is April 19, 2011.  Participants in the IC campaign will have 6 weeks in which to affect a change of their choice (like quitting smoking or running 2km without stopping).  Participants utilize Canadahelps.org to create an online pledge page where people can pledge their support for the individual’ personal goal.  Money pledged/raised by each individual will go directly to BN.

Our campaign goal is to raise $100 000. The monies raised will support Beauty Night’s 3 streams of programs: wellness, life skill development and makeovers. Through this initiative we aim to raise money to continue building self esteem and changing lives of women and youth living in poverty. “In the past 10 years, we have given over 11, 000 life-makeovers,” Beauty Night Founder and Executive Director, Caroline MacGillivray explains, “By asking our supporters to make a positive change in their lives and raising money for a cause they believe in, we hope to make a positive impact in the lives of those who support and live in the community. I change, I change the world is a great way to do that.”

When asked if she was going to be participating in IC campaign, MacGillivray smiled and said,”Yes. I decided it was time to get over my fear of running. I stepped out of my heels and into a pair of running shoes. I started my IC goal several weeks ago as I am training for the Vancouver Sun Run. Thanks to my trainer, Laura Fairfield, I managed to run 5k without stopping. So I am half way there.”

Some of our Beauty Night Supporter’s goals include:

Going Vegan
Learning 200 words in sign language
Running the Sun Run

All I want for Xmas

Huge thanks to our contributors and volunteers who made our All I Want for Xmas party successful! Thanks to your contributions we are able to provide more life makeovers to vulnerable women.

Thanks to Ronnie Bugay from www.galeliodesign.com for capturing the event and what we aim to achieve with the monies raised through Beauty Night Society.

Blogathon

Dear Friends:

At 6am on Saturday, July 25, 2009, I will be posting a blog on
www.sexyinvancity.com every 30 minutes for 24 hours.  Blogathon 2009
is an opportunity for bloggers to raise the profile and funds of
charities that are important to them.

Beauty Night Society is important to me.  Beauty Night Society
provides marginalized women and youth the tools to make positive life
style changes.  In 8.5 years, we have given over 10 000 makeovers.
Our Monday night makeover program in Vancouver has 10% of previous
participants volunteering.

By creating opportunities for our participants and our volunteers to
work together with other services providers, we are building strong
communities.  Through Womyn’s Gym, the makeover program, group fitness
program, Chick Lit and many more programs, we have made a positive
impact in the lives of thousands of people.

As we work towards a model to duplicate our programs in other
communities around the world, we are focusing on raising funds to
continue to create opportunities to empower and strengthen our
participants, volunteers and sponsors.  When we work together, we make
a huge difference.

If you are able to pledge a lump sum or an hourly pledge for my
blogging marathon, it would be greatly appreciated. Charitable tax
receipts will be given for donations of $10 or more. Thank you so much
in advance. Here is the link.
